It involves three guns, handgun, rifle and shotgun. Some like to shoot blackpowder. For more info check out www.sassnet.com and www.wcfss.com

Is providing a venue for the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) pistol events: 50 m Pistol (Free Pistol); 25 m Rapid Fire Pistol; 25 m Center Fire Pistol; 25 m Standard
Pistol; 25 m Pistol (Sport Pistol); and 10 m Air Pistol. KPC also engages in NRA

shoot outdoors on our 50-metre range - which features covered firing points.
The club is in the process of rebuilding. We welcome new members interested in "bulls
eye-style" target shooting under the ISSF and NRA rules. Coaching is available, so don't
be reluctant to join us even though you may not have tried this style of shooting before.

| Small Bore Rifle Club (Junior shooters) |
|
This division of the Kelowna and District Fish and Game Club offers shooting classes for both juniors (10 years and up) and adults, using 22-cal. rifles. Emphasis is on gun safety and marksmanship in a program geared mainly toward juniors.
You must be a fish and game club member to participate, then pay a fee of $7 per session. This covers supplies like ammunition and firearms, and safety gear like shooting glasses and earmuffs. There are certified range safety officers present during each session, offering instruction in three shooting positions: competition-style standing, kneeling and prone.
The .22-cal. rifle instruction program is held every second Tuesday night, usually at the indoor range, with junior archery alternating between rifle nights. The program starts Sept.18 and goes to mid-June. Novice shooter sessions run 6:30-7:30 p.m. and the more experienced juniors and adults are on the range 7:30-8:30 p.m.
During Daylight Savings time, the club offers trap shooting lessons the first Wednesday of the month. Fee for this is $12 per round (25 clay targets). Shotguns and one-on-one instruction provided.
We also have a silhouette range which is used by club members, only under the supervision of a range officer. This facility is for .22 rifle shooting only, with metal animal silhouettes engaged at distances of 40 metres to 100 metres.
There is a fall pumpkin-jug shoot fundraiser Oct. 21 at which anyone can come and shoot; club membership not required. At this event, guests and members can shoot semi-automatic rifles in .223 and other calibres at milk jugs filled with water, always under one-on-one supervision of a range officer.
They can also shoot handguns in .22, .357, and .44-magnum calibres. There is also an opportunity to try archery, shotguns and firing mini black powder cannon.
All proceeds from this and a spring shoot go to the junior programs.

| Silhouette Club |
|
Silhouette shooting is a great way to get a lot of bang for your buck.
A division of Kelowna and District Fish and Game, the Silhouette Club has been formed to advance the sport of metallic silhouette target shooting.
Using .22-cal. long rifle firearms, participants shoot at banks of pigs, turkeys, chickens and rams set up on stands at specific distances. Chicken
cutouts, the smallest targets (two inches by two inches), are shot at 40 metres.
Next targets are pigs that are three by four inches, at 60 metres. The turkeys, considered the hardest to hit, at four inches tall by three inches,
are shot at 77 metres. Rams, five inches by six inches, are arranged at 100 metres. Participants aim at 40 targets in a round, 10 at each distance.
Shooting takes place Saturday in the UIT/silhouette range after 1 p.m. when skeet shooting is done. Shooters will typically go through a couple
of hundred .22 long rifle rounds during a Saturday session.
Because this is a hunter's sport, and the club is just getting going, it shuts down during hunting season and starts again in January. When daylight
allows, silhouette shoots Tuesday evenings starting in mid-May and participants can count on using 100 rounds.
The club supplies the targets, the bullet traps around the target stands and the facility. All shooters must join the discipline and supply their own
scoped rifle (hunting or target) and ammunition. There is a $2 per day shooting charge. The range is open only to silhouette shooters (who must be fish
and game cub members) on the Tuesday and Saturday.
Range safety is a priority. All Silhouette Club members must take a range officer course from the club leaders.
Silhouette in competition is shot free-standing, but using a rest is a good idea for younger shooters to keep up their interest in the sport. The club
hopes to have a fun shoot or two during the year.
To learn about knocking down the little metal critters, contact the club office at 250-764-7558. |
