Pistol Safety Qualification Course
All KDFGC members must successfully complete the pistol safety qualification course prior to using a KDFGC pistol range.
Common questions:
- 1. Is the Pistol Safety Qualification Course mandatory?
- Yes, this is mandatory training.
- 2. Why is the Pistol Safety Qualification Course mandatory?
- a. Safety is the cornerstone of Kelowna and District Fish and Game Club.
- b. It is our responsibility to maintain a consistent level of safety in all aspects of KDFGC shooting disciplines and activities.
- c. KDFGC recognises that club members come to us with various levels of firearm and shooting experience, from the professional to the absolute beginner.
- d. Successful completion of the Pistol Safety Qualification Course ensures that all club members have achieved a specific standard of training and knowledge before handling, or discharging, a firearm, unsupervised.
- e. You, as a shooter, can be safe in the knowledge that the person, shooting next to you, has also achieved that standard.
- 3. I have extensive experience with firearms, why would I take this course?
- Please understand that we, at KDFGC, have a responsibility, to all club members, to ensure a consistent level of safety. Exempting someone from this training would be considered negligent, should an injury occur as a result of that exemption.
The course includes range and firearm safety instruction including dry and live fire practice. Following the course is a Qualification Test where you demonstrate the skills learned in the course.
