HANDGUN LEVEL 2 – INTERMEDIATE
Course Outline
Class Size: Maximum of 2 participants
Trainees are required to bring their own firearms,
ammunition, and all necessary equipment, including a pistol belt, magazine
pouches, and a rigid holster.
COURSE OVERVIEW
This 6-hour live-fire certificate course is designed for
shooters who already have a solid understanding of marksmanship fundamentals
and are ready to advance their skills.
Important: This is not a course for novice shooters.
Completion of Handgun Level 1 (or equivalent) is required.
Participants will develop the core skills needed to:
- Safely
draw from a holster
- Engage
targets at varying distances and positions
- Perform
magazine exchanges
- Identify
and clear common firearm malfunctions
PRIMARY LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Participants will be instructed and evaluated on:
- Firearm
safety: skills, knowledge, and attitude
- Dynamic
firing line range commands
- Proper
firearm presentation
- The
four-point draw technique
- Marksmanship
fundamentals
- Two-handed
firing (Weaver and Isosceles stances)
- Reloading
techniques and magazine exchanges
- Malfunction
clearance drills (Class 1 and 2)
- Shooting
from varied positions (standing, kneeling, seated, prone)
- Timed
relays
COURSE PREREQUISITES
- A
valid Restricted PAL (RPAL) must be presented before training
begins
- Completion
of Handgun Level 1 (KDFGC or equivalent professional training)
- Ability
to safely participate in moderate physical activity, including transitions
between shooting positions
- No
medical or physical limitations that would compromise safe firearm
handling (contact us for accommodations if needed)
Required Knowledge Before Arrival
Participants must review:
- Canadian
Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) Manual (Restricted sections, pages 215–326)
- Their
handgun owner’s manual
You should arrive with a strong understanding of:
- ACTS
and PROVE safety procedures
- Firearm
parts and controls
- Safe
slide manipulation
- Basic
disassembly, reassembly, and function checks
FIREARM & EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Modern
handgun in excellent condition (pistol or double-action revolver only)
- Minimum
of 2 magazines or speed loaders
- Belt-mounted
magazine/speed loader holders
- Strong-side
rigid holster (must fully cover trigger and retain firearm securely)
- No
cross-draw, shoulder, inside-the-waistband, soft, or concealment holsters
permitted
- Blackhawk
Serpa-style holsters are prohibited
- Sturdy
belt system
- Cleaning
kit with rigid rod
- Locking
case and trigger/cable lock
- All
required legal transport documentation
AMMUNITION
- Minimum
200 rounds of quality factory ammunition
- No
magnum or +P ammunition permitted
GENERAL EQUIPMENT
- Eye
protection
- Over
glasses if you are wearing prescription glasses
- Hearing
protection (electronic muffs recommended)
- Ball
cap
- Closed-toe
footwear with good grip
- Fitted
shirt and long pants suitable for movement
- Weather-appropriate
layer (range may be cool)
- Notebook
and pen
- Required
personal medications (advise Instructor of any medical issues or
allergies)
Note: This is a professional training environment.
Respectful conduct and appropriate attire are expected at all times.
FOOD & DRINK
Participants must bring:
- Water
/ hydration
- Snacks
and lunch
Note: Food is not available on-site, and the group does
not leave the range during training.
SCHEDULE
- Training
runs from 10:00 to approximately 16:00
- Lunch
break: 12:00 – 12:30
- Please
arrive early — training begins promptly at 10:00
Important: No live ammunition is permitted in the
classroom.
CERTIFICATION
Successful participants will receive:
- A
professional course certificate and report
- Authorization
to participate in supervised KDFGC WA1500/PPC training
